Latin Name: Schizophragma hydrangeoides 'Moonlight'
General Info
- Best grown in rich, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade to full
shade.
- A single plant will eventually grow 30' or more wide
- Should bloom in early/mid summer.
- Should attach with adhesive aerial rootlets, self-clinging
- Slow to establish.
- From Japanese mountains. Not actually a Hydrangea. But it is in the hydrangea family.
- Not aggressive. Harmless to walls/masonry.
- Can take several (Like 7!) years to begin blooming and really get going..
- It's the leaves that are variegated! Not the flowers I believe.
- High air humidity helps.
- It can tolerate full sun, but the silver patterns on the leaves only show in
shade and fade to green in the sun.
Soil Requirements
- rich, medium moisture, well-drained soil. A few places mention slightly acid soil.
- Thrives in humus soil. Light and moist, but not waterlogged.
Water Requirements
- Water regularly - weekly. More in extreme heat.
- Does not like drought.

- Fertilize when new growth begins in spring
